      Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge

      High-Up in the Impenetrable Forest

Situated on the Nteko Ridge, high above the afro-montane forest on the south side of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge sits apart from the well-trodden paths of the region. The first of its kind in Uganda, Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge is part of the International Gorilla Conservation Program’s (IGCP) tri-national program to protect the highly endangered mountain gorilla and the result of a working partnership between the Nkuringo community, AWF and a leading private operator. The lodge directly benefits the Nkuringo community, which has a significant ownership stake in the venture through the Nkuringo Community Development Foundation (NCDF). With strategic support from IGCP, NCDF planned and secured financing for the lodge, which was built with funds from USAID. The Uganda Safari Company, a leading private operator, manages the lodge in partnership with NCDF. Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge comprises of eight stone bedrooms, with two of these being double-roomed family units for people traveling together. The main building with reception, dining, shop and bar area also has six fireplaces to keep it a cozy area throughout the day. Views from the main balcony area stretch across to Rwanda and the Virungas as well as all the way across the border towards Goma in the Congo. Each room has its own twin basin en-suite bathroom, with hot and cold water, as well as electric lights, plug points and a cozy fireplace. The main lodge offers soft and plush finishes with turned wood and commissioned artwork from Ugandan artists adorn the walls throughout. Outside sitting areas with comfortable “laid back” chairs for each bedroom with an unobstructed, and at the same time unobtrusive, view of the forest below. Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge offers bird watching, guided forest walks, gorilla trekking and visits to the local community at an additional cost. Gorilla trekking permits are issued by the government on a per person, per day basis at a current cost of $600 per permit and are not included in the accommodation cost. The permit price will increase to $700 per permit for all treks scheduled for July 1, 2020 or later.
