      Bwindi South

      Incredible Eastern Mountain Gorillas

The Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a national park in Western Uganda home to more than critically endangered 300 mountain gorillas. Spending time with these incredibly sentient creatures is often the high point of a trip to Africa and an experience that cannot be forgotten. Tracking gorillas is very active and requires gorilla-viewing etiquette. The area is mountainous and heavily vegetated and all excursions are on foot. There is a 15-year-old age minimum to go on a gorilla trek. The southern part of the park is notably home to a world-class, luxury mountain lodge, the result of a working partnership between the Nkuringo community, the African Wildlife Foundation, and a leading private operator. The lodge is a winning solution for tourists, locals and gorilla-seekers. Gorilla-seekers enjoy unique accommodations and a chance to catch a glimpse of the precious mountain gorillas. Locals benefit from employment and community development projects such as improved roads supported by revenues from the lodge. And, the mountain gorillas benefit from a safe habitat supported by the guest fees and other income.
